Gold Shines & Stones Sparkle at Baselworld
/Baselworld Trade Fair Report No. 3: Fine Jewelry
Gold, particularly rose gold was by far the preferred metal choice at Baselworld together with an explosion of colourful precious and semi-precious stones. There was no shortage of one-of-kind “haute joaillerie” pieces that would appeal to modern princesses anywhere. However, the recent economic difficulties in the Far East have had their effect. Many houses have added more accessible pieces to their collections, and gold plating has become acceptable. Brightly coloured stones made a splash and outshone diamonds and pearls. Silhouettes aimed to be bold and contemporary in tune with trends emanating from fashion.
